Kumihimo

Kumihimo is the historic art of Japanese braiding. A similar technique is found in
Peru. There they use the braids for practical purposes where as the Japanese used
them for decorative purposes such as Obi-
Some of today’s uses are for jewelry. Some are just the plain braiding seen in the familiar “Friendship” bracelets or with small beads added as shown below. Mixtures of fancy and decorative fibers can be made into necklaces to showcase a beautiful focal bead. The uses are many and very different. I’ve made a few of the simple variety. I plan to expand with other ideas in the near future.
